Social Farm Forestry
A full-fledged nursery of Clonal species of hard wood plants has been established in the premises with the goal of promoting agroforestry in the vicinity. Clonal plants from this nursery not only serves the local farmers with a fast-growing harvest and supplementary income, but also provides us with a sustainable source of raw material.
Water Conservation
Water is a precious resource that is essential to the existence of life on our planet, and hence, conserving water should be our utmost priority. At Kuantum, we recognize the importance of conserving water to protect the environment and ensure the sustainability of our operations, so we have been continuously investing in various freshwater conservation initiatives and wastewater treatment processes.
Technologies used at our plant to reduce freshwater consumption include the installation of disc filters, conical save-alls, Micro Plate Settlers (MPS) technology, and Dissolved Air Floatation (DAF) technology. We also recycle hot water from heat exchangers, uses Volute Press equipment technology for handling secondary sludge, and have installed a Triple Wire Belt Press at its effluent treatment plant (ETP). These initiatives have helped us to reduce freshwater consumption by 2500 m³/day or 6 m³/tonne of paper.
Conscious efforts are being made through various projects to further reduce freshwater consumption by 5 m³/tonne of paper.
Energy Conservation
As a paper company, we understand the importance of energy conservation in reducing our carbon footprint and contributing to a sustainable future. The need of the hour is to be self-sufficient in power requirement to counter the ever-increasing cost of purchased power as well as its quality of supply. It therefore becomes imperative to go for 100% captive power generation to sustain operations on a long-term basis.
Kuantum Papers is currently operating a 38 MW co-generation power plant for captive use, while eliminating dependency on Grid Power. To meet the demands of process steam, and to generate sustainable power, one high pressure CFBC boiler, supplied by ISGEC, with an operating pressure of 110 Kg/cm2 and 130 T/Hr steam flow has also been commissioned recently. This has helped Kuantum to not only be self-sufficient for its power and steam needs, but also has equipped it with enough capacity to cater to increased power requirements for future expansion.
Wood Policy
Kuantum Papers is devoted to forest sustainability and natural resource protection by strictly prohibiting the sourcing of Illegally harvested wood, wood harvested in violation of a traditional or civil right & Wood from forests in which genetically modified trees are planted.
Kuantum Papers monitors and verifies the source of raw material and takes appropriate actions to ensure sustainable wood sourcing. It complies with the required standards for pulp and paper manufacture utilising the percentage system and has been certified by the SCS with the FSC® License Code FSC-C109585.
